Transgender woman transferred from Male prison to Women's

Tara Hudson, a transgender woman, who was held at an all-male prison has now been moved to a women's facility.

The judge called for a rethink of where Hudson was made to serve the 12-week sentence she was given for an assault committed late last year.

Hudson, who has been living as a woman her entire adult life, was initially sent to HMP Bristol. Though Hudson has undergone six years of gender reconstruction surgery, she is still classed a male legally and policy states that offenders be placed in prison according to their legally recognised gender.

However, after an review by the judge and medical experts of the circumstances to protect the emotional wellbeing of the prisoner, Hudson was transfered to Eastwood Park in Gloucestershire.

She said to be a lot happier since the move.
