My love for India
Looking through my eyes at 21 as a young black female from London moving to New Delhi, India for 3 months.
Ever since I was a child I’ve dreamed of travelling the world and still intend on doing so, therefore when the opportunity came at work to move to expand the company I took full advantage to be one of those selected to go.
I was really excited to go India as at that time the furthest I had been was the Caribbean but that was all on family holidays. Therefore I was excited to what I would see or do in the country, as I heard many myths like travelling is very dangerous and the people are very poor there. There is no question that India is a developing third-world country; that means that many people are “poor”, especially by Western standards.
What many people fail to consider is the technological and economic growth of the country, which is quickly transforming India into one of the world’s largest economies. The result of this growth is a rapidly growing middle-class with access to the latest in fashion, technology and services. The sad fact is that poverty exists in every country of the world; India is no exception.
India is a vast South Asian country with diverse terrain from Himalayan peaks to Indian Ocean coastline and history reaching back 5 millennia. The home of one of the 7 world wonders Taj Mahal, The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna river in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
When I arrived in India I remember being in the taxi and just staring out of the window in amazement, it was nothing like what I had seen on TV it was beautiful, colourful and streets filled with people. The country is filled with beautiful architecture, gorgeous fashion filled with extreme heat (which after a while you get a custom too).
I couldn’t wait to explore and see the city of New Delhi, the first place we went to visit was Connaught Place which was for shopping. It was such a great shopping experience as we saw markets filled with people, children with face paint on and getting tourists to do the same. This was my go to shopping place in New Delhi but they also have great malls in Saket and Vasant Kunj which have global retail stores like H&M, Zara, Topshop, Sephora etc. I decided while I was there I would buy a pair of trainers in every country I go to, as I am a sneaker freak.
The places I would suggest visiting in New Dehli is Lotus Temple, which is called The Bahai Temple but commonly referred to as the Lotus Temple as it's shaped like a lotus flower; it's particularly pretty at night, when it's attractively lit up. Made out of white marble, the temple belongs to the Bahai Faith, which proclaims the unity of all people and religions. Everybody is welcome to worship there. The tranquil gardens and ponds surrounding the temple are also a great place for a relaxing picnic.

Overall the trip was the most amazing experience I’ve been on, in my opinion what they show on the TV isn’t what you see when you get there. I suggest to everyone that they should visit India as the culture, the people, the history, the land itself is such a beautiful place.
